Baby Lewis
Yesterday, I wrote about baby Jardine Joan, my grandfather's child with his first wife. I also spoke of the loss of his second child. The first child he had with my grandmother. An older brother to my mom and her younger brother, Norman. Again, I did a bit of research of both Ancestry and Family Search. With a little deduction, I found a child buried in Marshalltown, Iowa with a death date of May 4, 1934. I was pretty sure that this was the baby boy because his name was Lewis Allen. Lewis after my grandfather. And Allen after my grandfather's older brother who lost his life in Word War I. I then looked at a site called www.IowaHistory.org that has catalogued some county vital records. There I found baby Lewis with his mother's maiden name listed as Lane and a birth date of May 2, 1934. My grandmother's maiden name was Lane. Baby Lewis is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. Such tragedy for young parents. A lot of tragedy for a young dad...two babies lost in a few short years. But now both are found and can be remembered. I will have to take a trip to Riverside Cemetery and see if I can find baby Lewis.
